August Meet up At The Butterscotch Bakery

The Butterscotch Bakery, 175 Hyndland Road was the venue for our August event.  Owner, Rachel Nelson opened the bakery in July this year.  Beautifully decorated with vintage crockery and fine tablelinen, the bakery is a welcome addition to the area, serving teas, coffees and cakes to many.   There are wonderful celebration cakes dotted around the bakery and a mouthwatering selection of homebaking on display.  Rachel gave us an insight into the bakery and told us how she has followed her passion for baking since a young girl.  When Rachel saw the empty shop in Hyndland earlier this year, she knew that was the ideal spot for her!  Baking starts from 6.00am every morning, sometimes earlier, to ensure all cakes are ready for the day.  Our theme for the evening was ‘Great British Bake Off’, using recipes from Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood.  We had a great selection of bakes, ranging from Tomato and Mozzarella Focaccia, Breadsticks, Quiche, Oatcakes to sweet delights such as Salted Caramel Eclairs, Chococlate Eclairs, Iced Fingers, Coffee and Walnut Cakes and Banana and Cinnamon Loaf.  Eating, drinking and lots of chat, and of course discussion on the big question – who’s going to win the GBBO?  Thanks Rachel, for a lovely evening.

And big thanks to Kirsteen for writing up the blog for this meet. Hope to see you all at our next one on Thursday 8th of October 2015 hosted by British Sugarcraft Guild. The event will take place at Lok’s Bar and Kitchen, Newlandsfield Road, G43 2XU on the southside of Glasgow. See last blog for more details.
